On Thursday, November 9, parents came “back to school,” taking an evening to learn basic Singapore math skills in order to support our students better at home. Mr. Adkins offered an overview on Saxon Math and Singapore Math and why the two programs are blended. Small group sessions allowed parents to visualize how Singapore methods were used and embedded into Saxon Math to improve student math language and comprehension. Topics of discussion included the approach of concrete-pictorial-abstract in math, number bonds, 10 frames, model drawing in fractions, and word problems.
If you missed the event, please email Mr. Adkins, dean of Academics, and he will provide you with handouts: firstname.lastname@example.org.
