Coffee, Conversation, and Book Club (9-12)9:00-11:00 AM | Cost: $15 each or $50 for all 4 sessions
Ms. Theresa Kinyon, Mrs. Claire (Kirsch) Bona, Dr. Kathleen Kirsch, and Ms. Sami Burr want to share their favorite book with other young ladies who love to read! They will provide a copy of the book to read and be ready to discuss! Every few weeks, the ladies will meet at the instructor’s favorite coffee shop to share in an edifying discussion. Join for as many or few as you wish!:
-Dr. Kirsch will lead The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery on Thursday, June 13 at Claddagh Coffee on 7th Street West.
-Ms. Burr will lead The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis on Thursday, June 27 at Himalayan Java on Grand Avenue.
-Ms. Kinyon will lead Oh Pioneers by Willa Cather on Thursday, July 18 at Quixotic in Highland Park.
-Mrs. Bona will lead Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen on Thursday, August 1 at Day By Day Cafe on 7th Street West.
Fun with Saints (3-6)9:00-11:00 AM | June 17-20 | Cost: $60 | Instructor: Ms. Samantha Burr
Will you miss Saint Agnes’ Vacation Bible School this summer? Come learn about the saints with middle school theology teacher, Ms. Burr! This class will include activities, games, and crafts connecting to saints whose stories continue to inspire young people today!
Celebrating en Español (3-6)9:00-11:00 AM | June 24-27 | Cost: $45 | Instructor: Rachel Crouse
Food, songs, crafts, and language will help students to learn how a variety of Spanish-speaking cultures celebrate holidays. Each day will focus on a different holiday and the way it is locally celebrated. The class will host a fiesta for their families on the last day, sharing the foods, songs, and crafts they learned through the week!
Reading Intervention (1-3)3rd Grade (8:45-9:45 AM); 2nd Grade (10:00-11:00 AM); 1st Grade (11:15 AM – 12:15 PM) | June 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 21 | Cost: $45 | Instructor: Mrs. Leila Vance
Mrs. Vance will be leading reading intervention classes, including small group tutoring sessions, to strengthen decoding skills, fluency, and comprehension skills. Avoid the academic “summer slide” and help your student grow in confidence as a reader! Mrs. Vance is a reading specialist trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction.
High School ACT Crash Course1:00-3:00 PM | July 29-August 1 and August 5-8 | Cost: $150 (includes book) | Instructor: Ms. Samantha Burr
This course covers all the essentials needed to be successful on the ACT. Each session will focus on both content (English, Math, Reading, Science, or Writing) and test-taking strategies intended for students taking the ACT in the fall (September or October 2019).
Theology of the Body Hikes (9-12)9:00 AM – 5:00 PM | June 24-27 | Cost: $150 | Instructor: Jen Messing
Four hikes in four days, led by Jen Messing from Into the Deep. We will explore local trails here in the Twin Cities with a combination of summer weather, trail mix, theology, and the camaraderie of friends. Locations will include the Minneapolis-St. Paul Riverfront parks and at least one state park within an hour of the metro area. Spontaneous discussions and prayer times will be woven into each day, with special emphasis on how to integrate Theology of the Body concepts into everyday life. Law & Order – Mock Trial Style (9-12)1:00-3:00 PM | August 5-8 | Cost: $45 | Instructor: Ms. Samantha Burr
There is nothing to “mock” about this course offering! Students are invited to join Saint Agnes’ inaugural mock trial team in playing the roles of jurors, attorneys, witnesses, and defendants. Learn to enact justice in your community!
Conversing in Spanish (10-12)12:00-2:00 PM | June 24-27 | Cost: $45 | Instructor: Rachel Crouse
Practice makes perfect, or ¡La práctica hace la perfección! Stretch your linguistic muscles and practice your Spanish over the summer by joining this class. Students will focus on speaking skills and help each other to become better at Spanish. On the last day, students will go to an authentic restaurant where they will test their skills by ordering in Spanish! Heritage speakers are welcome! At least one year of Spanish is a prerequisite.
Saintly Friends and “Frenemies” (7-12)3:00-5:00 PM | July 23-25 | Cost: $45 | Instructors: Maureen McNeill & Ms. Theresa Kinyon
Sometimes our best friends can be our biggest challengers, and sometimes that can be a good thing! This class will explore the purpose of friendship, what it means to be a good friend, and the qualities necessary for such an endeavor. We will look at what philosophers had to say about this topic as well as examples of friendships among Catholic saints and role models who sometimes had an adversarial relationship but brought each other into a closer relationship with Christ. Learn why challenging your friends and being challenged by them can be a good thing!
Driver’s EducationAges 14.5-18 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM | June 17-21, 24-28 | Cost: $375
Saint Agnes School is happy to partner with Safeway Driving School to offer Driver’s Education to students ages 14.5 to 18 as a part of our Summer Series for 2019.
